Marie Arsalidou Principal Scientist My main research focuses on understanding neurocognitive mechanisms of development using behavioural and neuroimaging methods. I am interested in brain-behavioural functions in general and I have a special interest in hemispheric asymmetry. I am delighted to work with all the talented people in this laboratory on questions such as “How context and development affects how many items we can hold in mind?”, “How brain-behaviour relations change as a function of age?”, “How various cognitive processes are expressed in the brain”. We adopt a constructive developmental approach and are committed in contributing to basic knowledge and finding ways to translating research into education and clinical practice. |
Patricia Aguiar Research Student I am an undergraduate student pursuing a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. I hope to attend to the Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Sciences Graduate Psychology program. I seek to look into how the brain functions through a variety of cognitive tasks with a focus on how different localized regions integrate to work as a cohesive global network. I also have a personal interest in nutrition and aspire to one day incorporate that into my academic studies of higher level cognitive functioning. |
Dana Burlac Research Student I am a third year Psychology BA Specialized Honours undergraduate student here at York University. My research interests include examining the effects of neuropsychological disorders on behaviour and cognition, through the use of neuroimaging techniques such as: fMRI, DTI, PET, and TMS. I am specifically interested in studying the neural mechanisms that support various cognitive-emotional processes, and wish to eventually apply my knowledge to clinical practice. |
Morteza Charkhabi Post-doctoral Research Fellow I obtained my PhD in psychology from the University of Leuven, Belgium and the University of Verona, Italy. For my PhD I explored the extent to which an individual’s cognitive appraisals of situational stressors can buffer or amplify the stress-health link. My current research interests are mainly focused on scale development, cognitive processes related to health and well-being, situational stressors, neuropsychological bases of stress, techno-stress, and personality-performance links. My favored studies are two-country cross-sectional, experimental, andlongitudinal studies plus meta-analysis. |
Tamara Khagabanova Research Student I am working towards a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. My interests lie in reading development and executive function, especially inhibition control and its role in learning processes. |
Evgeny Khalezov Graduate Student My scientific interest focuses on cerebrovascular hemodynamics mainly as a physiological measure of individual differences in cognitive performance across development. I am looking forward to completing my Master’s Thesis on this topic. |
John Kim Research Student I am currently completing my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. My scientific interests are on human-machine interactions, and their corresponding neurological responses and changed from the experience. I plan on pursuing graduate studies, doing research contributing to safer and more efficient technological designs. |
Kseniia Konopkina Research Student I am pursuing a master degree in the programme “Cognitive sciences and technologies: from neuron to cognition”. My current research interest is mathematical problem-solving, which I will study using behavioural and neuroimaging methods. In addition, I am interested in studying developmental and neurodegenerative disorders. |
Anastasiia Liashenko Graduate Student I am working towards a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. I’m always eager to find out more about how the language learning, mnemonic techniques and attentional processes. |
Adriana Milani Research Coordinator I am pursuing a B.A honors degree in psychology at York University. My research interests include investigating neuropsychological functions and processes in individuals, specifically those with neurocognitive deficits and clinical disorders. I am interested in acquiring a broad understanding of various cognitive faculties including consciousness, memory, and perception, as I hope to gain a better understanding of the interrelation between mental experience and brain behaviour. |
Lubaina Mohamedali Research Student I am pursuing an Honours Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology. I have a strong interest in cognitive and developmental psychology, with specific interests in the field of linguistics, learning, attention, and memory. |
Bemnet Teferi Research Student I am pursuing an Honours Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology and Health Management at York University. My research interests are in cognitive and counselling psychology, with specific interests in the field of mental health and addictions. |
Sagana Vijayarajah Research Student My research interests include facial recognition, developmental changes in visual perception and executive functioning impairments in traumatic brain injury patients. Currently, I am working on a project that aims to investigate how brain responses of different reward types are represented in the brain. |
Zach Yalpe Graduate Student From my experiences and interests in cognitive neuroscience, I have investigated cognitive phenomena such as negative priming, attention, cognitive control and decision making. I use neuroimaging (EEG, TMS, tACS and tDCS) as well as meta-analysis techniques. In my most recent work, I performed a foci-based ALE meta-analysis to identify concordant brain activity among fMRI studies that examined the negative priming effect. |
Amina Yousaf Research Student I am currently in the Concurrent Education program, completing both my B.A in Psychology and Bachelor of Education at York University. I intend on pursuing graduate studies in the field of clinical psychology. During my undergraduate studies as a psychology student I have developed a keen interest in studying and learning more about visible minorities who live with PTSD. One specific area I would like to contribute to would involve person’s of South Asian descent, since there is a lack of research on this demographic. |
